It’s been almost a year now that I’ve been co-producing THE VIBRATO BAR with North Shore Voices and Off Cabot. If you’ve been paying attention to this space, then you already know that the Vibrato Bar is the North's Shore's ONLY classical karaoke bar.

If you've not been paying attention or you're new here, then you might be wondering... what the heck is a classical karaoke bar? Great question.  Classical karaoke is when you take all of the typical elements of going out to sing karaoke - fun songs you know, a night out with your friends and/or coworkers, good drinks, maybe some snacks, lack of pressure, anyone can get up and do it - and apply that to anything but pop music.

It’s got vibes, a great sound system and lighting, a gorgeous baby grand piano, a pianist who can sight read anything, and a bartender who can mix whatever your heart desires. Seating is bar tables in an intimate room, making for a cozy evening out with your friends.

Now you might be saying, ok cool, that sounds pretty good, but what do people sing?

So far, we've heard everything from baroque arias to French and Russian art song to Mexican folk song to Americana to Italian arias to Gregorian chant (yes actually) to sacred music to Renaissance polyphony to themes and variations to - we all know 'em and love 'em - ye olde 24 Italian Songs and Arias.

So, hopefully you get the point - there's quite a range. And you most definitely do NOT need to sing opera to show up in this space. At the Vibrato Bar, we welcome all performers with any level of classically adjacent musical experience to get up and perform.

And, did you notice how I said performers, not singers? That's because ALL classical musicians are welcome - whether you sing or play an instrument.

In addition to all the fabulous singers here in our community, we've also had sax and violin at our classical open mics - and we can't wait to have more! So whether you play flute or clarinet or fiddle - bust that sucker out - especially if it's been years. Whether it's been days or decades, the Vibrato Bar is the perfect venue to brush up on your chops and start making music again.

The Vibrato Bar is fun, it’s friendly, and its freeing.

But, if you're still on the fence, check out Part 2, on who it's for.
